Choosing an Outdoor School Bench
Coated steel benches for campuses, playgrounds, and memorial sites, made in the USA.
Bench Types
- Standard steel bench — general seating for courtyards, walkways, and bus-loading areas.
- Buddy Bench — a designated playground bench that signals a student is looking for someone to play or talk with.
- Memorial bench — carries an engraved plaque honoring a student, staff member, or event.
- Custom logo or mascot bench — coated steel with a school name, mascot, or emblem.
- Backless bench — lower profile for tight walkway clearances or multi-directional seating.
Materials & Mounting
Expanded metal vs. perforated metal seating: expanded metal sheds rain fastest with an open diamond pattern; perforated metal has a smoother, more finished look with similar drainage.
Mounting: portable benches can be relocated as campus needs change. Surface-mount benches bolt to an existing concrete pad. In-ground benches set permanently in soil or footings for high-theft-risk areas. See Mounting and Install.
Coating: a thermoplastic-coated steel finish resists rust, fading, and graffiti-removal chemicals significantly longer than painted-only frames. Use the Spec & Quote Checklist when writing a bid.
