Choosing a Heavy-Duty Metal Picnic Table
Coated steel picnic tables for schools, districts, and government sites, made in the USA.
Table Types
- Rectangular, expanded metal top — high-traffic outdoor dining and playground seating; drains rain in minutes.
- ADA-compliant — meets wheelchair accessibility requirements with one bench section removed for clearance.
- Octagon, perforated top — suited to outdoor classroom and playground zones; reduces standing water and glare.
- Umbrella-ready — accepts a standard umbrella pole for shaded seating near play structures.
- Surface-mount — anchored to a concrete pad for permanent, theft-resistant installs.
Materials & Finish
Expanded metal vs. perforated metal: expanded metal is diamond-mesh cut steel that drains fastest. Perforated metal has punched round holes, similar drainage, and a more finished look. Both outperform a solid top for standing water.
Coating matters more than gauge: a thermoplastic-coated steel finish resists rust and graffiti-removal chemicals far longer than painted or galvanized-only frames — the spec most district facilities departments require in current bid documents. Use the Spec & Quote Checklist when writing a bid.
